DIY ANCHOR SIGN
This post is sponsored by FloraCraft®. All opinions are 100% on my own.
I am back today with my monthly Flora Craft creation. If you have been following me for a while you might know that I have teamed up with FloraCraft® to create something fun each month with their amazing product. It is really a fun challenge as each month we have different themes set. This month’s theme was outdoor decor. Can I just say that outdoor is my favorite theme in summertime? We spend lots of time outdoors during the warm months and I try to create fun, cozy outdoor space for us to enjoy out there. This huge rustic looking DIY ANCHOR SIGN can be hung outdoors or it could even be a nice front door decoration if you wish. I am always smitten with beach homes and their vibes, however I don’t have a beach house or beach house decor inside of my home. If you have a beach house you can totally hang this cool anchor sign indoors as well.
Today I will show you a quick and easy tutorial of how you can make this fun home decor piece without carving wood. Yep. It would make you think that it was cut out of wood, but it wasn’t. It is made out of foam – foam sheets to be exact.
MATERIALS:
- 2-FloraCraft® Make It:Fun® Foam Sheets 2″ thick
- FloraCraft® StyroCutter® Plus
- FloraCraft® Foam Connectors
- FloraCraft® Smooth Finish
- paint- navy blue and white
- rope
STEPS:
First I drew an anchor shape on my Foam sheets. I laid 2 huge sheets next to each other and I drew out an anchor shape. As you see my shape wasn’t perfect the first time, but I corrected my lines until I thought it was about symmetrical. Once the shape was drawn I used my FloraCraft® StyroCutter® Plus ( which is an amazing tool) to nicely cut out my anchor shape. If you use this tool be sure to use it slowly, as if you push the cutter too hard it could break.
After one side of the anchor was cut out I attached my foam sheets together with FloraCraft® Foam Connectors to make it easier to cut the other half to be symmetrical. You can also lay one half side of the anchor shape on the top of the other sheet to make the cutting easy.
I then smoothed the surface with FloraCraft® Smooth Finish and let it completely dry.
After the smooth finish was dry I smoothed the surface with sand paper. Using navy blue and white acrylic paint I created the rustic look on my anchor.
Then I tied a piece of rope around my anchor’s neck.
TA-DA! Huge ( because it is huge) anchor sign was done in no time!
I told you it will be and easy tutorial. Think about carving this shape out of wood….Heck no! You can create a very similar wood look using these awesome foam sheets!
I really love how this project turned out. Don’t you?
