PAINTED FIREPLACE

Sharing is caring!

Have you ever thought about painting your fireplace? I did it and today I show you my painted fireplace.

This is a gorgeous white painted fireplace. Love how bright it is. Have you ever wondered how to paint a fireplace? Look no further!

About a month ago I revealed my family room makeover. It was another One Room Challenge and now looking at the before and after I can’t even tell you how much I love the after. We worked hard to beautify this room to what it is today but heck it was a fun process. I always enjoy the One room challenge makeovers as it pushes me to finish a room in 5 weeks. An important part of the room makeover was to paint our stacked stone fireplace. It was a huge dilemma. Huge. I went back and forth with the idea and I almost could not decide if painting our stacked stone fireplace would be a good idea or not. Then after hesitating for a while, I went for it. Yup. And I will never look back!

This image below is the before.

Well, I loved this look for years, but now that we decided to build around that fireplace with white built-ins it was a bit a big contrast between the stacked stone and the white built-ins. I went to browse Pinterest, and I found such inspiring white fireplaces that totally made me go for it.

Aren’t they gorgeous?

So yes, yes, and yes!

Now I have a beautiful white, painted fireplace!

One Sunday I woke up, ate breakfast and changed to my “painting outfit”:-) Poured me some mimosas and a couple of hours later I had a white fireplace.

I used the ULTRA WHITE paint from Behr to paint the stones. I used the same paint for brightening up the walls in the room and it worked just fine. Initially, I wanted to spray the stones so all the little holes could be covered,  but I figured it would be way too long to cover everything around the fireplace than just go for it and paint as is. Ha. Sometimes you gotta think thru:) I used a simple brush (normal size) and I started from the top to bottom and I nicely painted the entire fireplace.

It took me a good couple of hours and few mimosas:-)

Some people think I was crazy to cover that gorgeous stone fireplace with white paint, but honestly, I would never regret it. It’s so bright, clean and it blends in so well with the rest of the room.

Did I inspire you to paint your fireplace? I sure hope so!

  1. This is so inspiring and helpful! Thank you for sharing your beautiful spaces! I’m wondering what sheen of paint you used on the fireplace? Do you remember if it was satin, semi-gloss, or something else? Thanks so much for your feedback!

  2. My living room is mostly warm tones but our stone fireplace is a cool grey with purple and red tones and it just doesn’t feel right! I’ve been wanting to paint ours a warm white and redo the mantle for ages! I thought it was a much more involved process though, so thanks for the extra motivation to go for it!

  3. Thank you for sharing this! We are looking for a new home and many have red brick fireplaces, which I don’t care for at all. Now I know what to do with them! Have a Happy 4th!

  4. Oh wow, when you said you painted your fireplace I actually had to double check the picture to figure out in what way – the white looks so professional I didn’t even question it! It fits beautifully in your home and matches that floor perfectly! I say you made an excellent choice. 🙂

  5. I have a painted white brick fireplace in my home and I love the clean look. My fireplace has been white for quite a while, so it’s time for a touch-up. I like your idea of having some mimosas to help the process along! 🙂 Your fireplace is great – and so is your room.
