Mirror makeover with vintage decor paint
Hello Everyone and Happy September!
I hope you all had a wonderful long weekend. Today I am sharing an easy, thrift store mirror makeover. I used Vintage Decor Paint from Martha Stewart Crafts® to give new life to this mirror that I’ve found couple of weeks ago. When we enter our home, there is a little corner at the bottom of our staircase that needed some serious help. This little corner was an empty, unused space, pretty much home for clutter, ever since we live here. I never really decorated this tiny space. When I spotted this large mirror at Goodwill, I knew that this little corner would be the perfect home for it.
Here is the mirror before, it only cost me $9.95.
The Vintage Decor Paint that I used for this project just hit Michaels stores and is available in a charming palette of 22 traditional and stylish colors. The paint requires no prep work and dries with a beautiful matte finish, or it can be distressed or sealed with a clear or antique finish. I loved working with this paint.
MATERIALS I USED:
– Vintage Decor Paint from Martha Stewart Crafts® ( available at Michaels )
-Vintage Decor Clear Wax
– Vintage Decor Paint Brush
– regular brush
– sand paper
– painters tape
I started with sanding the frame. It had a pretty old smell and it was a little dirty also. Sanding definitely helped cleaning the surface and it also helped for the paint to stick on the surface better. I used painters tape around the frame to avoid painting the mirror.
After the sanding was done, I went on with my first coat of Vintage Decor Paint. I chose Tomatillo which is a beautiful shade of yellow. I wanted this mirror to have a distressed look and I chose this color to be a base coat.
I left the first coat to dry completely and then I applied the RED WAGON color, the primary color.
I left this coat to dry fully.
I went on with my sand paper and lightly sanded the areas where I wanted to create the distress look.
After I got my finished look, I applied the clear wax.
Here is a short video of the introduction of this new Martha Stewart line.
This paint is just so easy to work with and it dries super fast and on the top of that it comes in gorgeous colors.
I am truly happy with the look of my “new” mirror.
Here is a before and after of this little empty corner where this gorgeous, decorative mirror found home.
What do you think of this easy transformation?
I am seriously in love with this mirror, especially the top decorative pops with this amazing shade of color.
Vintage Decor paint is going on sale this week at Michaels.
There are some amazing new stencils on the shelves too. They designed for furniture and home design use. I stenciled my lamp shade literally in no time.
