Are you ready to take better pictures of your food?
Here are some of my tips!
LIGHTING is everything!
I only use natural light for my photography. I don’t use flash and I don’t take pictures with lights on. Try to find the brightest spot in your house when you take pictures of your food. That would probably be next to your biggest window or patio door. Don’t be afraid to get on the floor if you need to.
BACKGROUND
Instead of photographing your food on your table, create a textured background by putting wood panels next to each other. It is the most inexpensive way to add  great background to your images. I even painted some of my wood panels to be able to make my images more interesting. Look at the huge difference below.
PROPS
Adding the right props are super important. I always try to use props that are going well with my food colors. Visit your closest Goodwill and you will find lots of cups, bowls that are going to make wonderful props. Use different fabrics, scrapbook papers, anything that will give texture to your image. Use ingredients of your food. Drop spices around your plate. Always make sure your  props colors are flowing with your food colors.
For this image below, I placed fall leaves and seeds around my plate to tell a better story with my image.
Here is another example:
I think white plates are the best and they will give you the cleanest look but if you find a cute, interesting shape bowl and it’s colorful, use it! { see above }
STYLING
Play around with your props and try different things that will make your images more stylish. Move things around and look into your camera and see what looks pleasing to your eye. Sometimes I drop ingredients in front of the plate to achieve the right composition. Very important to make sure you still keep the focal point of your picture, which should be your food image and not your pops.
ANGLES
Don’t always shoot one particular angle. Try to shoot your food from different angles, including overhead shoots as well. With overhead shoots you find more possibility to add props around your image that are sill in focus.
EDITING
Once you upload you images to your computer do some basic editing on your images. You can use PicMonkey
or if you have an access to Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop those are great tools as well.
Watermark your images before upload them to your site. It’s your work, wear it proudly!
I hope my tips will help you achieve taking better shots of your food.
Next month I will talk about photographing your interior.
Have a wonderful weekend friends!
