Today, I am going to show you how you can make this high-end jewelry box on a pretty low-budget. Jen at I heart Organizing having a monthly challenge link party and this time it’s called HIGH and LOW. She wanted her readers to DIY something expensive that would organize things at home on a low-budget. I just read about this challenge a few days ago but I knew that I had some items on my wish list that I wanted to DIY.
I love drooling over West Elm’s website, they have so many things that fits my taste.
So I chose to make this super chic slide box to hold some of my jewelry. I keep bringing jewelry home just because I love them. The bad thing is that I hate to say good-by to them. This means way to much jewelry in my house.
This chic slide box originally cost $39.00 on West Elm’s website.
Who likes to pay that much for it? I don’t!
Are you ready to see how I made this easy-peasy project?
You really only need a few things that you may have at home already:
– wood box
– 2 pieces of card stock white paper
– sharpie & pencil
I bought my wood box at Michaels, and off course I used a 40% coupon that made this box cost $3.00. What a deal.
So I took the top of the box off and I stained the box with a dark brown wood stain.
Stain dries a little slower than paint so make sure it is completely dry before you try to fold your paper on. While it was drying I took my sharpie and pencil and drew a feather on a piece of card stock white paper.
I tried copying the feather art that was on the West Elm box. It turned out pretty good.
I folded the paper over the box after the stain was completely dry.
One piece of paper only covered half of my box, so I needed to glue another paper on to the paper that had the drawing, to be able to make full sleeve for the box.
I used tacky glue ( any glue would work ) to glue the paper pieces together.
My sleeve for my box was done in no time.
I slid in the box and put my jewelry in .This box will hold lots of jewelry;-)
What do you think?? I love it!
And talk about the cost. Made under $5.00.Whoo0ho!
I had the stain, glue and sharpie at home so I really only spent money on the wood box.
