Hello there Place Of My Taste Reader!  It’s Katie from The Casual Craftlete blog.  I hope the weather is warming up where you are and that spring is in the air.  Today I am sharing a beautiful Grapefruit and Rosemary Mocktail.  This delicious drink would be a perfect refresher for Easter brunch or a baby or bridal shower.  It’s a fabulous mocktail that is sure to wow your guests!

Grapefruit and Rosemary MocktailI absolutely love grapefruits!  It’s probably my favorite citrus of all.  I really like the sweet and sour taste and the pink color is just gorgeous.  Another thing that I enjoy doing is pairing fruits with herbs.  I have fun playing around with all the different flavor combinations that marry so nicely together.

Grapefruit and RosemaryI always make my own fresh grapefruit juice.  It’s just tastes so much better than store bought.  For this recipe of four drinks, I juiced 4 large pink grapefruits.  That should make approximately 16 oz of juice.  I stored the juice in a mason jar with a lid and refrigerated it over night.  It’s very important that all the components of this drink are nice and chilled.  The next thing I did was to make a rosemary simple syrup.

Rosemary Simple SyrupTo make the rosemary simple syrup, I added equal parts sugar and water.  In a small sauce pan on the stove, add 1 cup of water and 1 cup of granulated sugar over medium heat.  Dissolve the sugar for about 5 minutes.  Do not let the mixture boil or crystals will form.   Once the sugar has dissolved, pour the simple syrup into a heat safe container.  Add 3 sprigs of rosemary and let steep for at least one hour.  The syrup will keep in the refrigerator for ten days.  It’s nice to have simple syrup on hand.  You can add it to teas for a delicious sweet flavor.

Grapefruit and Rosemary Drink Recipe To assemble the drink, in each glass pour 1/2 cup of the fresh grapefruit juice, 1 Tablespoon (1/2 oz) of the rosemary simple syrup and top the glass with sparkling water (about 1 cup).  Garnish with a wedge of grapefruit and a sprig of rosemary.  You just get a heavenly scent every time you take a sip.  These are the measurements that I like for my drink.  You can play around with them to suit your taste.

  1. Do you store you’re simple syrup with the sprigs still in it or take them out after the hour of steeping?

  2. The flavours really work together, for our liking we used quite a bit more of the syrup to increase the all important sweetness factor. It’s such a lovely colour! Thanks for the recipe.

  3. Aniko, the drink looks delicious but your phototography–amazing! Straight out of a food magazine, you are so talented! Thanks so much for sharing at the Pretty Preppy Party. XO, Amy
