Well, you are going to be surprised. There is no science behind it lol. It’s super easy to stand your Christmas tree in a basket, but because I get lots of questions about it, I thought I would share a post on how I did it. This is my second year using a basket as a Christmas tree skirt and I love it. The image above is from last year’s Christmas decor and believe it or not; I pulled the same decor out this season as well because I LOVE it so much. This neutral Christmas decor even made it to Better Homes and Gardens December issue!!(pretty please)

The basket idea blends into my decor as I have baskets all over in my house so adding one more was a great move. I think I started seeing Christmas trees in baskets a few years ago and I immediately was intrigued by the idea.

Alright!

This is my current decor and I am so happy with my tree in the basket again. And this time we did not go with our usual Fraser Fir tree, but we bought a White Pine tree. Eeeh…I think I will go back to Fraser Fir next year!

Some people asked how I water my tree..? Well, you need to put your tree on a tree stand first. There is no other way around it! Your tree won’t stand alone in the basket. Period!

My large ( 19.5″) basket is from World Market. After the holidays I just put some of my plants in it, and they looked great!

Below are some great tree basket options for you!

That is it, my friends.

Oh and definitely don’t decorate your tree first. It was a last minute idea to share a post on it, so my tree was already decorated but before you decorate your tree, have it stand in the tree stand and place the tree with the stand into the basket.

Can you add the basket idea after the fact that your tree is decorated? Sure! But be careful not to ruin your ornaments by lifting the tree up.

Have a fabulous day, friends!

  1. I’m so happy you linked to some good baskets, I’ve been searching everywhere for one that would fit! We just had our floors resurfaced earlier this year and I’ve been searching for an easy way to not have my Christmas tree stand scratch them up. I can’t wait to try a basket out!

  2. Don’t be afraid to simply say “Here are some photos of my pretty tree in a basket”. It’s much more authentic, which people love and respect.

  3. This is not meant to sound like a goofy question but is there an easier way to water the tree when it is in a basket? It seems really hard to get the water into the container without spilling water all over the place.

  4. wow!! that just brought back some memories…..growing up, my mom would put the tree in a metal type basket – it was like a small tub in summer we used to put ice blocks for the ice box for the country house! – mostly because she didn’t want the pins all over the house!!! The basket looks really nice and I am keeping this idea for my tree for next year.,,,seems like old ideas are being renewed!!
